Why Organic Farming Matters

alt text

For us, growing our hemp organically isn't a question — it's how we do things.

We take immense pride in our commitment to organic farming practices, and we firmly believe that it is the only way to cultivate hemp. Our commitment to organic farming is reflected in the quality of our products.

By choosing our organic, full-spectrum hemp extract, our customers can trust that Sunsoil's Vermont-grown hemp has undergone rigorous inspection and meets the standards for organic certification.

In an unregulated industry like CBD, we take it upon ourselves to ensure the highest quality and adhere to USDA organic guidelines. Our customers choose our organically grown CBD products because of sustainability, transparency, and safety – reasons that are central to our philosophy.

The Origins of Organic Farming

Organic farming is a type of agricultural system that dates back many centuries, yet first became established as a recognizable practice in the early 20th century.

It relies mainly on factors such as the use of non-chemically altered fertilizers, biological pest control, crop rotation, and the exclusion of any substances which are not naturally occurring.

Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are generally not allowed, nor are genetically modified organisms (GMOs), hormones, or antibiotic use in livestock.

Conventional vs. Organic Farming

The differences between organic and conventional farming revolve mainly around how crops are managed throughout the growth cycle.

Conventional farmers often apply chemical fertilizers as a means to promote plant growth and spray insecticides to reduce pests and disease. They may use chemical herbicides to manage weeds. These practices have proven to be harmful to the environment, plants, animals, consumers, and even the farmers who work with dangerous chemicals.

Organic farming principles work in stark contrast to conventional farming practices.

Rather than using chemical fertilizers to promote unnaturally aggressive plant growth, organic farmers apply natural fertilizers like manure and/or compost to feed their soil and plants.

Instead of insecticides, symbiotic relationships between other insects and birds, as well as techniques such as mating disruption are often employed as far less destructive alternatives.

The same goes for managing weeds, as crop rotation, hand weeding, and mulching replace the need for chemical herbicides.

Organic Farming at Sunsoil

At our farm, we incorporate many of these same organic principles into our daily farming practices.

“Organic” on our farm means no pesticides or herbicides, no GMOs, soil-building through crop rotation, traceability from seed to shelf and soil nutrients derived from organic inputs.

It's what makes our USDA-certified organic hemp the perfect source material for the best CBD oil on the market.

Our customers choose organic, full spectrum hemp extract as opposed to products made with conventionally grown hemp for several reasons.

For People

Conventional hemp does not undergo the same types of inspection as organic hemp crops, which means farmers do not need to follow the long list of guidelines necessary to meet the standards for organic certification.

Every farm that applies for USDA certification is inspected by an organic certifying agent on an annual basis.

As CBD is an unregulated industry, we believe it's essential (and our responsibility to you) to provide the best-quality product. To us, this means ensuring that our hemp meets USDA organic guidelines before it’s used to create our end products.

For Plants

Our organic, USDA-certified hemp is always grown from seed (as opposed to the practice of "cloning" that many hemp farmers utilize), resulting in a rugged, hearty plant capable of thriving in Northeastern Vermont.

Sunsoil's whole-plant infusion process is an extension of our sustainable farming practices, and our simple methods keep the terpenes and cannabinoids that make our full spectrum CBD oil so effective, healthy, and intact.

For The Planet

Organic farming allows us to connect to our roots as a Vermont-based company and ensures us the peace of mind associated with knowing that our end products are helping further safeguard the Vermont farmland on which they are made.

When it comes to pure, clean, and natural, it’s just the way we do business.
